Pirelli has developed a new "Green" high-performance tire for light trucks and sport utility vehicles. The new tire incorporates advanced materials and construction to reduce road noise and increase comfort while improving fuel economy.

On the "Green" front, the Scorpion Verde tread compound contains no high aromatic oils, thereby reducing harmful substances released into the environment during tire wear. The Scorpion Zero reduces rolling resistance by 20-percent compared to a similar Scorpion STR tire. The lower rolling resistance translates into an increase fuel economy, 3.9% in city driving and 3.4% for mixed city and highway. Pirelli designed the tire using 10-percent fewer raw materials and designed the tire to last longer, thereby reducing the environmnetal impact of tire production and disposal.

The tire tread has been optmized to decrease noise by one decibel, a 30-percent reduction in noise. The tread is designed for even wear over the life of the tire. Its materials integrate advanced technologies including nano-filler particles in the tread compound and a polymer structure that adapt to various road conditions. The tire's four deep grooves increase its water-shedding capacity and improve wet traction.

Comments: I am very pleased with the way my B.F. Goodrich Traction TA's handle on my Chrysler. The car came with Michelins originally, but I have always had good performance from B.F. Goodrich tires since my first purchase of them back in 1985. I anticipate they will continue to perform well as have others that I have used on my Jeeps, and my wife's TransAm.
